Customizing your Theme

Depending on the theme you’re using for your site, there are a different set of changes you can make to your site from within your admin panel. This tutorial explains how to do some of the changes to your site using the Customization page. For this tutorial, we will use the Twenty Nineteen theme.

To start customizing, Appearance > Customize

On the page that opens, you can modify your website theme in real-time. On the left, you will see a list of the available options and on the right is a live preview of your site changing as you make adjustments.

Site Identity

The Site Identity tab allows you to upload a custom logo, change out the title of your site. You can fill out the two fields under Site Title and Tagline, and immediately see the results on the preview window on the right. You can also add a site icon (favicon) to your website.

Colours

You can modify your theme colour, which will impact the design of your website greatly without much effort at all. To do this, head over to Colours on the Customizer menu. Select Custom and drag the slider to the colour you prefer. Link and button colours will update immediately. Click on publish to apply changes.

Menu

Navigation menus allow users to browse different pages or sections on your website. Mysite.ng comes with a powerful navigation menu system, and your theme utilizes this system to display menus. You can add a new menu or make changes to any existing menu. Use the Add Items button to find links to add. You can create blank pages as you go. Adding new pages this way automagically adds them to the menu.

Homepage Settings

Here, you can select between two options, your latest post or a static page. If you have a blog, you might want to use the first option. The Static page feature is particularly useful for websites that want to keep a blog separate from other sections of their website or for users who want to showcase content other than blog posts on the front page of their website.
